Protect your Process Equipment with Efficient Bale Wire Screening Solutions

What is Bale Wire Screening?

Bale wire screening is a critical early-stage contamination removal step in paper and board mills, particularly in operations using baled pulp raw materials.

Effective stock preparation screening helps prevent coarse contaminants from entering downstream equipment and supports reliable mill operation.

Where Bale Wire Enters the Process

In paper and board mills using baled pulp, contamination risks typically arise during dewiring , bale breaking, conveying, and repulping

During the pulp bale dewiring process, wires can break into smaller fragments, remain within the pulp, or be carried into conveyors, pulpers, and stock preparation equipment. Without efficient bale wire removal in paper mill systems, these contaminants can travel deep into the process.

Why Bale Wire Removal is Critical

In paper and board mills, unremoved bale wire and other coarse contaminants can damage and prematurely wear sensitive equipment such as refiner plates, cleaners, fine screening baskets, and rotors.

The risk of foreign object damage to paper machine systems cannot be overlooked. Contaminants that bypass early-stage screening can lead to downstream quality issues, increased maintenance requirements, and costly production interruptions.

For mills operating refiners, effective refiner protection screen solutions are particularly important, as bale wire fragments can damage refiner plates and negatively impact process performance.

Removing contaminants early through efficient coarse screen applications is significantly more cost-effective than addressing equipment failures and quality losses later in the process.

Kadant's Screening Solution for Removal of Bale WireRADISCREEN HORIZONTAL HERO 2 wBASE

Efficient removal of bale wire and other coarse contaminants reduces mechanical wear, minimizing the risk of foreign-object damage, downstream failures, and production or quality losses.

With its compact design and energy-efficient, reliable operation, the Radiscreen-C coarse screen is well suited for this application. It effectively removes bale wire at high consistency, protecting refiners, deflakers, and other downstream equipment in pulp stock preparation systems.

By acting as a dedicated deflaker protection screen and refiner protection solution, the Radiscreen-C helps maintain stable stock preparation performance while supporting improved refining conditions.

Successful Radiscreen-C Installations

Over the last several years, numerous mills across Europe have successfully installed Radiscreen-C coarse screens as protection screens for pulp mill systems ahead of refiners. The screens operate at consistencies up to 5%, making them well-suited for demanding high consistency pulp screening applications.

The Radiscreen-C is engineered with the smallest possible footprint, enabling compact installations that help reduce investment costs. Its optimized design also supports energy-efficient operation while maintaining high process efficiency and reliable performance.

The conical screen disc design provides excellent runnability while minimizing wear on screening barriers and rotor vanes, helping mills improve equipment reliability and support long-term stock preparation system protection.
